Award Worthy Trends

     As I promised I am offering my interior design trend predictions based on the Academy Award's top styles.

     I did not notice any of the much touted, Pantone color of the year- emerald green. What I did see was an abundance of blue; navy, and midnight Blue. As an interesting side note, midnight blue was my favorite Crayola crayon color when I was young. I researched midnight blue, and was pleasantly surprised to discover it was introduced the year I was born, 1958.

     The ladies below each look beautiful in these very flattering colors.

     Navy has been in for the past year or so in interior design, and I think it has staying power. In the past we have typically seen it with white or cream, I expect we will see navy used in new applications and combinations. Possibly with orange, yellow, lime green, turquoise, and other vibrant colors.

	Graphic prints have been a popular item in interiors for the past several years. I think they will continue to be, but with a much more complicated, and detailed design. Many will have a Bohemian feel with a modern twist. These gowns are a hint of things to come.

         

Other trends spotted at the Oscars were laces, ruffles, full skirts, pale colors, and sculptural styles.  I expect to see these increase in usage in interiors this year.  Victorian and shabby chic had barely lost their popularity when we began seeing a come-back, of sorts.                             

   

 It will have a different feel with contemporary elements incorporated, but the overall look will still be present. One of the ways this style will be made modern is to use lace in a new way in interior design.

       A couple of final fashion trends I noted were the number of black and gold, or black and silver gowns, and the warm, coral red gowns. It will be interesting to see how these play out in interior design for the upcoming year.
